SHILLONG: Seventeen months after the arrest of GNLA chairman Champion R Sangma, the court proceedings against the militant chief is far from over.

Public Prosecutor IC Jha on Wednesday admitted that the proceedings are progressing at a fairly slow pace, while informing that only nine witnesses out of the 21 listed, have been examined and cross examined in the court so far.

Jha stated that the trial was moving very slowly since atleast 15 witnesses should have been examined by now.

The former DSP turned GNLA chairman was arrested from near the Indo Bangla border at Umkrem, East Khasi Hills on July 30 last year, after being reportedly deported from Bangladesh.
