SHILLONG: Organisations from Jaintia Hills on Thursday sought the intervention of Governor Dr KK Paul on the proposed delimitation bill of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC), which according to them, was against the very essence of delimitation. They also threatened to take the matter to the court if their demand to squash the bill fell on deaf ears.

Speaking to media persons Jaintia People’s Movement Forum (JPMF) president, Baitlang Pohsngap said the Governor has assured to look into the matter.

Stating that the Delimitation Bill violates the spirit of delimitation, the groups alleged that objections at the public hearings were sidelined and people’s opinions were subdued for the benefit of the sitting MDCs and executive members of the district council.

Claiming that majority of the people in the district are against the bill, he alleged that the bill was brought before the public without any prior deliberation on the issue.

The traditional heads in their memorandum submitted to the Governor here prayed that the Bill must not be allowed to be passed since JHADC elections are quite near and it was against the interest of the public.
