Arunachal parliamentary secy held

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh police on Thursday arrested a parliamentary secretary for his alleged involvement in snatching and burning of documents relating to electoral roll summary revision of Kurung Kumey district. Tax & Excise Parliamentary Secretary Lokam Tassar was arrested from his official residence here, said Nabam Gungte, Superintendent of Police of Papum Pare district under which the state capital falls. Since he is a member of the Assembly, the speaker has been intimated about the matter, the SP said. Tassar, a Congress MLA from Koloriang seat in Kurung Kumey district, denied his involvement in the incident and described it as a political conspiracy by BJP and NCP. When produced before the court of judicial magistrate (First Class) at Kimin, Tassar was remanded to 14-day’s judicial custody. Tassar along with others allegedly burnt the documents on December 9 after waylaying a vehicle carrying the documents at Hawa Camp near Kimin. The vehicle was on its way to Itanagar under police escort. A group of people intercepted the vehicle, took out all the documents of electoral roll revision for Palin, Nyapin, Tali and Koloriang assembly constituencies and burnt them along with a computer and four digital cameras, Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner Gejum Ete said in his report to Chief Electoral Officer here on Tuesday. According to the FIR lodged at Kimin police station, the act was carried out by 16 or more persons led by Tassar. Tassar claimed he was not involved in the incident and it was a conspiracy plotted against him by BJP and NCP to tarnish his image. Meanwhile, a group of 14 Zilla Parishad Members of Kurung Kumey demanded that the CEO set up a committee to probe the incident. (PTI)

3 killed in Kamrup accidents

Rangia (Assam): Three persons were killed and another critically injured in three accidents in lower Assam’s Kamrup district since Wednesday night, police said Thursday. Two persons were killed when their motorcycle hit a stationary truck at Rampur under Palasbari police station killing them on the spot. The two were yet to be identified, the sources said. A labourer, Ajit Boro, working near a train track was knocked down dead when a Howrah-bound train hit him at Amingaon. In the third mishap, a carpenter identified as Bhaben Das riding on a cycle was hit by a bus on National Highway 31 at Rangia today and seriously injured. Das was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital. (PTI)

Nagaland CM asks rebel groups to reconcile

Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu today said all Naga political workers (underground) should reconcile themselves so that a negotiable settlement could be hammer out with a joint effort. Addressing the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) Party at the Kohima Local ground, Rio said that if the underground people are working for the Naga people, they should hear the voices of the people and come to reconciliation among themselves so that an acceptable and honourable solution could be hammer out to bring a permanent peace in the state. Expressing happiness that there is a relatively peaceful atmosphere in the state following the cease-fire Agreement and political dialogue is going on between Naga nationalists and the Center. He appealed the negotiating parties to expedite the process of resolving the decades old Naga political problem in bringing about an honourable settlement at the earliest. He assured the NPF party is fully committed to play the role of facilitator to the political dialogue and for bringing about unity and reconciliation, while maintaining equi-closeness with all nationalist groups.  He said as a regional party, it was committed to continue its fight for the full honouring an implementation of the 16-point Agreement and Article 371 (A) by the Central Government.
