Woman officer molested; FIR registered against accused DGM

Kanpur: A woman employee has filed a complaint against the DGM of a car company service centre for allegedly threatening and molesting her, police said on Friday. A customer relation officer at a leading car company in Dadanagar area has accused the company’s DGM Faheem Khan of allegedly molesting her repeatedly for a month, police said. According to the victim, the DGM started molesting her just a few days after she joined office and later forced her to have an intimate relationship with him, police said. When she refused to pay heed to his advances, the man threatened her by saying that she will be sacked from her job and also sent her obscene messages, they said. Thereafter, the woman informed her husband about the ordeal, following which an FIR was registered against the accused Thursday night, Govind Nagar Station Officer A K Singh said. The accused could not be reached as he is on holiday, police said, adding that the matter is being investigated. (PTI)

Panchayat samiti member’s father killed by Maoists

Malkangiri (Odisha): Maoists have gunned down the father of a panchayat samiti member in Motu area of Malkangiri district suspecting him to be a police informer, police said on Friday. A group of about 40 armed ultras struck at the house of Prabhakar Madkami, father of Manyamkonda panchayat, late Thursday night and brought him out of the house, the police said. Madkami, aged about 60 years, was taken to a nearby forest by the red rebels and his bullet-riddled body was found along a jungle road on Friday morning, Superintendent of Police Akhileswar Singh said. A poster, left near the body, claimed that Madkami was killed as he was passing on information about the activities of the Maoists to the police and BSF, he said. The poster also warned the villagers that they should have no link with the security forces, police said. BSF and police personnel rushed to the site and investigation was on. The killing came close on the heels of abduction of seven persons by the Maoists from two villages in Kalimela area of the district in the early hours Thursday, the police said.  (PTI)

Two children killed, another injured in fire

Deoria (UP): Two sisters were killed and their brother was injured after a fire broke out in their hut while they were asleep in a village here. The hut caught fire from a lantern on Thursday night in Badhya Bujurg village when the three children — Ankita (9), Aman (5) and Nisha (3) — were sleeping, police said. There was no other person in their hut when the fire broke out. All the three children were seriously injured in the fire and were rushed to a hospital, where Anita and Nisha died. Condition of Aman was stated to be critical. (PTI)

Over 2.5 lakh vacant posts in Railways

New Delhi: Over 2.5 lakh posts are lying vacant in Railways, Rajya Sabha was informed on Friday. The total number of vacancies in railways is 2,51,936 as on April 2013, Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in a written reply. While Northern Railway has the maximum number of vacant posts (28,958), followed by Eastern Railway (24,052), South Western Railway has minimum number of vacancies (6,336). However, filling up of vacancies is a continuous process and there is always a gap between occurrence of vacancies and processing the same for filling up which involves issue of notification, holding examination, finalisation of select panels and issue of appointment letters. As on April, 2013, Railways have 13,11,959 employees out of which the number of SC employees is 2,19,682, ST employees is 94,879 and persons with disability is 8,814. The number of substitutes engaged directly by the General Managers (GM) in various railway zones in last three years is 1784. GMs have been authorised by Railway Ministry to engage substitutes in exigencies of services against vacancies to avoid railway services getting adversely affected. (PTI)
