SHILLONG: In what may be termed as a bizarre incident, two persons were allegedly ‘detained’ by a village court at Pynursla in East Khasi Hills District in November last.
Police sources on Friday informed that two persons – Enes Khongliar (63) and Nimosh Khongliar (35) – were wrongfully ‘detained’ by jury members of the village court of Umniuh Tmar Elaka – Horsingh Khongbeh, Testman Khongshei, Kriwel Khiewtam and Latur Diengdoh – on November 6.
East Khasi Hills district police chief M Kharkrang said that the picture is still not clear on the details and investigation was on in the matter.
Source from the village, however, denied any such action by the village court.
The sources clarified that the village court had actually summoned one Jatwat Khongliar to remove a signboard which he had erected outside the boundary of the Ri Saw Kur.
Instead of appearing in person, Jatwat deputed Nimosh and Enes to submit a representation to the village court on his behalf.
While the two went to submit the representation, the village court decided to question them on the reason for erecting the signboard, the sources added.
