SHILLONG: Allaying all concerns from pressure groups, State Chief Electoral Officer P Naik has asserted that there is no dubious voter in the State.
Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, Naik said, “As far as the State Election Department is concerned there are no dubious voters in the State.”
According to Naik, there are legal procedures to file objection against any person who is suspected to be a dubious voter.
“Any one is welcomed to file objections and we will definitely inquire into it,” Naik said.
It may be mentioned that the issue of D-voters getting enrolled in the State Electoral Rolls has been raised time and again by pressure groups, especially during elections in the State.
Naik, further, reiterated that the Election department follows the standard procedure as per the direction of the Election Commission of India while enrolling people in the electoral roll.
Earlier, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma had also observed that temporary citizens who come to the State for a short period should not be allowed to vote in the election as it defeats the spirit of electoral representation and promotes corruption.
The State Government is also working on a representation which would be sent to other states of the North East to pave way for a joint representation to the Central Government.
Meanwhile, Naik informed that the final publication of the State electoral roll for the Lok Sabha election would be prepared by the first week of January.
