1 killed, 17 hurt as ULFA triggers blast in Assam

Guwahati: A 14-year-old girl was killed and 17 others injured in a bomb explosion detonated by suspected militants belonging to the outlawed United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) in the heart of eastern Assam’s Dibrugarh city on Tuesday evening.

Police informed that the explosion occurred at Amolapatty Railway crossing in the heart of the city at around 5:15 pm.

Purnima Rajak (14) was killed in the blast while 17 others were injured. The injured were admitted to Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh city.

A senior police official said that it was a crude bomb triggered by suspected ULFA militants.

Police have launched a search operation in and around the city and all entry and exit points to the city have been put under surveillance.
