SHILLONG: Chief Secretary WMS Pariat is availing a house rent allowance of Rs 16,000 per month together with his pay despite an official quarter being allotted to him at Bivar Road here.
This is in violation of the General Administration Department (GAD) norm under which house rent is given only to legislators and senior officers who stay in rented accommodation.
The matter came to light after RTI activist Agnes Karshiing sought a reply from the Accountant General, Shillong on the full pay given to the Chief Secretary. The pay slip shows that the Chief Secretary avails Rs 16,000 as house rent allowance among others.
When contacted, the Chief Secretary did not answer the calls.
