Cabinet talks power, food security issues

Imphal: The Manipur cabinet deliberated upon issues related to power, food security and public distribution in a meeting presided over by Chief Minister O Ibobi held on Thursday at the office of the Chief Minister, M Okendro, Minister informed.
The Cabinet discussed the possibility of converting power department into a corporation and it was also decided to formulate a policy to start the actual work within two months.
The power department has received criticism from all quarters for inability to provide power regularly. It is providing six to eight hours of power daily to the consumers.
The department is now planning to increase power production by starting series of hydro projects.
The cabinet also discussed implementation of the National Food Security Act, which is planned to begin in March next year. All the nine Deputy Commissioners have been asked to prepare the list within two weeks’ time. (UNI)
