2014 Lok Sabha polls

DIMAPUR: Re-affirming its decision to contest the forthcoming Lok Sabha election, which must be held in 2014, from the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency, the Naga Peoples Front (NPF), Manipur State unit,  has clarified on Friday that the party is yet to name its candidate.
The NPF, Manipur State is reacting to certain reports carried in Nagaland and Manipur based newspapers earlier in the month where a person’s name was mentioned purportedly the party’s candidate.
“We will definitely field a candidate in the forthcoming Lok Sabha poll in the Outer Manipur seat but our party’s Search Committee is yet to finalisise any name,” stated NPF Manipur State general secretary Athuan Abonmai on Friday.
The Outer Manipur seat is reserved for scheduled tribes.
The ‘Central Headquarter’ of NPF based in Kohima has appointed TR Zeliang as the convenor of the ‘Search Committee’ with MLA from Chandel Victor Nunglung as its member secretary, former MLA and NPF Manipur State vice president N Awangbow, NPF Manipur State president Soso Lorho, NPF Mnipur State general secretary (Admin) Honreikhui Kashung and NPF Central H/Q secretary general KG Kenye as members of the committee.
“The reports had hinted a person’s name as our candidate which is regretable,” stated Athuan Abonmai.
He then added, “The Search Committee is working hard in finalising our candidate.”
Manipur has two Lok Sabha seats, with the Outer seat having been won by Thangso Baite of the Congress in 2009.  (NNN)
