SHILLONG: Lawmali could hardly have hoped for a better performance in the first match of the new year when they defeated Aurobindo CC by a massive margin of 121 runs in a league match of the First Division Cricket League, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at the Cricket Ground, Polo, on Thursday.
The day started in Lawmali’s favour as they won the toss.
Choosing to bat first, they posted a commanding total of 224 for the loss of eight wickets.
Laxman Chettri made a half-century (55 off 52 balls) with eight fours, while Abhijit Dey took three wickets for 36 runs in eight overs.
In reply, Aurobindo were dismissed for less than half the required runs, all out for just 103 in 27.5 overs.
Sayantan Das made the best of things during the poor batting performance, top-scoring  with an innings of 20 runs from 18 deliveries (hitting three fours), while Donald Nongkseh bagged two wickets for just 11runs  in six very economical overs.
The next match will be a Super Division contest between Malki CC and Riatsamthiah SCC at 9:00am.
