Transport Dept takes new initiative to earn revenue
SHILLONG: Transport department has come up with new initiatives to earn revenue and also to ease the burden of commuters.
Transport Minister HDR Lyngdoh said on Thursday that aimed at ensuring connectivity in the rural areas, Government will roll out 71 buses to the outskirts in 59 routes.
At present there are buses and maxi taxis plying through various parts of city. However, rural areas lack in adequate transportation facilities.
Lyngdoh said that 71 buses had already been procured and they would be rolled out in rural areas soon.
Another move on the part of the transport department is to earn revenue by way of increasing the carriage fee from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per ton for vehicles s passing through the weigh bridges run officially by the transport department.
Delinking Meghalaya Passengers and Goods Tax from taxation department is another plan of the Transport department to add revenue its coffer.
