Couple commits suicide

Meerut: A 21-year-old youth and his paramour allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Takhawali village here, police said on Friday. Primary investigations suggest it to be a case of suicide, however, there is a possibility that it may be a case of honour killing as the youth and the girl were related to each other, Senior Superintendent of Police Onkar Singh said. According to the police, the youth was in a relationship with the 18-year-old girl. But, the two could not get married as he was the maternal cousin of the girl. Due to this the couple decided to end their lives on Thursday in the youth’s native Takhawali village, they said. (PTI)
