SHILLONG: A magisterial probe has been ordered into the collapse of the bridge at Akhongre in West Garo Hills causing injury to 3 labourers who were working on Saturday evening.
The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said on Sunday that the magistrate Tangchiring K Sangma will carry out the inquiry and he would be assisted by executive engineer, DRDA.
It was an under-construction bridge which collapsed at Akhongre near Tura.
Out of eight labourers , who were engaged in the construction of the PWD bridge, three were injured after the sudden collapse of the bridge . Police picked up the contractor identified as Kartus R Marak, who is residing at Araimile , Tura, but later he was released.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the magisterial inquiry would look into all angles of sabotage , poor quality of construction or other factors. The report will be submitted within a week’s time.
” If there is prima facie evidence of poor quality of civil works and negligence a police case will be registered against the contractor in one or two days after lodging of proper FIR, the Deputy Commissioner said, adding that he hopes to get the preliminary inquiry report within two days.
