SHILLONG: The State Government is planning to extend the tenure of the three Autonomous District Councils (ADCs) by another two weeks.
A proposal in this regard will be tabled before the State Cabinet, which is meeting on Tuesday, for approval.
Informing this here on Monday, District Council Affairs (DCA) Minister HDR Lyngdoh said this extension was necessary since the state government wanted to hold to election to three ADCs in the last week of February.
The present tenure of the three ADCs is scheduled to expire on February 16.
Replying to a query, he said that Government was keen to conduct the election in the new delimited constituencies.
Lyngdoh informed that Government had received some fresh queries from Governor Dr KK Paul on the delimitation Bills passed by KHADC and JHADC.
It may be mentioned that the GHADC is yet to complete the delimitation exercise.
“We are planning to send a reply to the Governor after a through deliberation in the Cabinet,” he said.
Earlier, a group of six MDCs from the KHADC had threatened to move court  if government decided to implement the KHADC Delimitation Bill and hold upcoming Council election in delimited constituencies.
