Shillong Jailbreak probe

SHILLONG: The State Government has paid a whopping Rs 2. 91 crore to as many as ten Government counsels  led by senior Supreme Court advocate KTS Tulsi to  defend the police in the Shillong jail break case during the hearing of Justice SP Rajkhowa  Judicial Inquiry Commission.
Other Government counsels  include  Gaurave Bhargave, Kuber Boddh, HS Thangkhiew, BP Todi, Y Shylla,Ankit Todi, R. Thapa, Ajungla Thungwa and N. Mozika.
The hurriedly completed report of the Inquiry Commission tabled in the Assembly in October last year had many loopholes as it was favourable to the police though there were allegations of fake encounter killing of Jail break mastermind Fullmoon Dhar.
As per the reply of political  department to an RTI query by Agnes Kharshiing, while Rs 43,92,380 was spent for engaging counsels in  2010,  Rs 51,29 ,281 was spent on engagement of counsels in 2011.
The travelling expense of the lawyers was Rs 7,69,429  in 2013.
Interestingly, Rs 1,81,65,500 was paid as professional fees to the lawyers and Rs 6,60,273 as hotel bills.
The total amount paid to them is Rs 2,91,16,863.
