Kohima: The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of Nagaland government has asked the Centre to expedite the peace process with the NSCN(IM).
The PAC during its first meeting held adopted a resolution to appeal to the Government of India and NSCN (IM) to expedite the peace process, Member of PAC K G Kenye on Tuesday said.
The House also resolved to appeal upon the Government of India expedite the process of declaring its proposed offers to NSCN(IM) on resolution of the vexed Indo-Naga political problem.
He also said that the PAC reiterated the continuous appeal of general public to the Naga underground groups to reconcile and unite in the interest of Naga people so as to achieve the common goal towards finding solution to the political problem.
PAC urged the “Naga nationalist groups to heed the voice of the people and come together for a final political settlement.”
Further, the PAC expressed anguish about the lost of precious lives and injuries caused to the general public in the recent stand-off between the general public and NSCN(IM) in Mukalimi designated camp of the outfit under Zunheboto district.
He, however, said that the PAC endorsed the steps and timely intervention of the state government and the security forces towards defusing the tension and restoring normalcy in the area.
While terming the episode as “unfortunate” and expressing regret, PAC appealed the public particularly the Sumi community to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the interest of the Naga people.
On the clash between the Naga and Karbi militants in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, the PAC said “it was unfortunate, where precious lives, including those of women and children were lost.”
Kenye said that the PAC appealed the people of Karbi Anglong and Nagaland to maintain calm and extend cooperation towards the government of both the states in restoring normalcy in the area.
The PAC also condemned the heinous crime committed upon the nine people, whose dead bodies were recovered in Dimapur on January 3.
“Such heinous crime should not find any place in the civilized society and that one and all should condemn the culprits involved in it,” he said.
Meanwhile,  Nagaland Home Minister G Kaito Aye jhas urged Congress not to politicise the issue of Mukalimi designated camp of Zunheboto district for its ‘narrow political mileage’ as such attempt might lead to ‘dangerous political ripple.’
In a rejoinder reacting to NPCC’s statement on Naga Peoples Front-led Democratic Alliance of state government’s handling of the Mukalimi episode, Mr Kaito narrated the whole sequence of events that led to the siege of Mukalimi designated camp.(Agencies)
