SHILLONG: The UDP Jaintia Hills District is continuing its campaign in different parts of Jaintia Hills as a preparation to the upcoming MDC and MP Elections.
In a statement issued here on Saturday, the UDP Jaintia Hills informed that a public meeting was held at Jalaphet on January 9 falling under Sutnga Constituency.
A large number of people from different parts of Sutnga Constituency attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by the MLA Nongthymmai Constituency, Dr. Jemino Mawthoh who is also the Chairman of the Election Campaign Organizing Committee, prominent leaders of UDP Jaintia Hills District , Mihsalan Suchiang (Adviser), Michael Sayo, president UDP Jaintia Hills District, Kitbok Nongtdu vice president UDP Jaintia Hills District, Welcome Dkhar MDC Khliehriat, Loma, UDP probable candidate from Saipung, Giri Lamare joint secretary UDP Jaintia Hills and also Hopingstone Bareh, Rangbah Shnong Jalaphet, Suklang Bareh, Rangbah Dong Pyrdung besides others.
The speakers expressed happiness at the overwhelming response received from different parts of Jaintia Hills and are hopeful that the District which once upon a time was a UDP bastion securing all 7 seats from 7 Constituencies in 1998 will make its presence felt in the coming MDC and MP Elections.
The speakers also lambasted the Congress led Government for its failure to articulate peoples aspirations which is reflected in the underdevelopment of the state in all fronts.
The leaders also lamented on the poor road condition across the State, steep rise in poverty, unemployment, growing militancy and law and order problem, problem of illegal immigration, increased crime rate besides others. Lack of good governance reflected in bad planning and administration has led to further deterioration of the state at all levels.
The UDP is hopeful that there will be a sea change in the coming MDC and MP Election and hope to make a comeback in the MDC election. The process of identifying and selection of candidates and holding of public meeting is going on in full swing.
The meeting also elected office bearers of Sutnga Constituency which include Hill Chyrmang as president, Viting Bareh as vice president, James Dkhar general secretary, Hem Chyrmang joint secretary besides others. The UDP Jaintia Hills District will also hold public meetings at Nartiang and Sapung in the coming days.
