NGOs unhappy over NH-44 condition

SHILLONG: Four Jaintia Hills based NGOs, AJYWO Central Governing Body, KSU Jaintia Hills District Unit, FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle and HNYF East Jaintia Zone has decided to call for harsh agitations from January 15 in protest against the government’s adamant attitude to fulfill their demand for immediate repairing of the NH-44 stretching from Mookyndur to Malidor.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, AJYWO-CGB president MH Dkhar said that the NGOs were planning to call for agitations on Sunday itself but decided to postpone the agitational programme till January 15 in view of the meeting between pressure groups and Government.

“We can’t tolerate seeing commuters crying in agony, while travelling along the said highway,” the group said while adding that the NH 44 is in deplorable condition.

He said that the adamant attitude of the State government and the central government towards the highway has compelled them to summit a memorandum recently to the concerned authorities but no step was even taken to repair the road and the condition deteriorated.
