Meghalaya girl bags Silver medal at national archery meet

SHILLONG: Parvati Nair of Meghalaya won the Silver Medal in the All-India Sub-Junior Archery Championship conducted from January 1-6 at Rohtak, Haryana. Teams from all states and important archery training institutions took part in the event which was conducted by the Archery Association of India. Nair was ranked second in her category in the all-India ranking. Nair, a Class VIII student of Army Public School, Happy Valley, Shillong, got her training from the 58 GTC Gorkha Training Centre, Archery Node under Subedar Sonam Tshering Bhutia. The Sports Authority of India (SAI), Meghalaya also took active part in training the young archer. 13-year-old Nair has taken part in the All-India Junior and Senior Archery Competitions held last year at Kokrajhar, Assam and Jamshedpur and was ranked 13th in the all-India rankings in both the events.
Karun Chandhok secures podium finish at Dubai 24Hours
Dubai: Indian racing driver Karun Chandhok got his year off with a third place finish in the SP2 class at the Dubai 24hours which finished on Saturday night. Chandhok, driving the Dubai 24hours for the second time in his career, drove for the Nissan GT Academy Team RJN, which suffered mechanical issues through the night, costing the team a chance at victory. Chandhok, driving the No.126 Nissan 370Z Nismo, joined Nissan GT Academy winners James Moffat, Tor Graves and Ashley Oldfield in Asia’s leading endurance race. The No.126 car was fighting with the RJN sister car for the win when the team suffered issues into the night, costing them more than two hours in the pits. (IANS)
Struggling India take on Germany in Hockey World League Final
New Delhi: India will be desperate for a positive outing against Olympic champions Germany here on Monday after suffering two straight losses to lie at the bottom of Group A in the Hockey World League Final. The hosts have clearly struggled against higher-ranked teams in the tournament, losing 0-2 to England on Friday and 1-3 to New Zealand on Saturday. India can expect the Germans to come hard at them in their final league match after their surprise 1-2 loss to England Saturday. All eight teams in the competition make the quarterfinals irrespective of where they finish in the two groups. (IANS)
