SHILLONG: Meghalaya Youth Pradesh Congress (MPYC) president Gabriel Wahlang on Tuesday said the allegation of the nexus between Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma and the ANVC (B) is a malicious attempt to malign the impeccable image and integrity of the Chief Minister.

“These allegations have no basis and are only aimed to slur and sabotage the national image of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya at a time when the country is recognizing his stature as a leader and one with farsighted vision, as demonstrated time and again in national and international forums,” Wahlang said in defence of the Chief Minister, in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

He said that the Chief Minister has been duly and transparently elected as the CLP leader to head the State Government by the elected legislators of the Congress party and its supporting allies.

“For the enlightenment of those who have raised these ‘laughable’ allegations, this is a democratic and conventional practice that has always existed. It is indeed beyond one’s imagination on how a few vested interests can shamelessly claim to play the role of electing a CLP leader,” he said, while adding, “They claim to have played a role as a mediator in this exercise which is most absurd.”
