Mukul, Lapang attend CWC meet

New Delhi: Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma and MPCC president DD Lapang attended the Congress Working Committee meeting in New Delhi on Thursday where the party named AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi as the Congress’ chief campaigner for the soon to be held Lok Sabha polls.

Thursday’s meeting was crucial as it comes a day ahead of the plenary session of the AICC where a decision on Rahul could be taken.

At least a dozen leaders from Meghalaya including Cabinet Ministers, AICC members and party functionaries will attend Friday’s meeting. Besides Dr. Sangma and Lapang, MPCC working president Deborah Marak, Minister Zenith Sangma and party MPs Vincent H Pala and Wansuk Syiem would be attending the AICC meeting.

Speaking at the CWC meeting Dr. Sangma highlighted the landmark legislative and executive decisions the party and the UPA II government have taken. Bills like RTI, RTE and the Lokpal have brought about a virtual revolution as far as transparency is concerned, he said.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the Food Security Bill which will fill many a hungry mouths. He lambasted the opposition parties and vested interests who were all out to damage the Congress.
