SHILLONG: The Annual Convention of Baptist faithful of Meghalaya bordering Bangladesh is underway at Chibak village near the coal and limestone rich Nongjri village of Ri Lyngngam. The Convention will last till January 19.
The annual district convention of Kulang district Presbyterian Church is also underway at Kulang village, nine km from Nongjri. It will also conclude on the same day.
Thousands of Christians from all over Meghalaya and especially from Khasi and Garo villages on the border, have already arrived at the venue and many more are expected to arrive at the venue over the next two days to participate in the Conventions.
As road communication in the area is at its worst due to the apathy of the elected representatives and the State Government, the Synjuk ki Rangbah Shnong (a Confederation of traditional Village Headmen Association) of the Bangladesh border areas under the leadership of PN Marwein and John Paul Hashah, undertook necessary repairs of the roads from January 13-15 for the benefit of the participants in the two conventions. The total length of the roads repaired by the Synjuk right from Ranikor – Nohlikata areas to Kulang and Moheskhola villages is about 75 km.
