Dist Council polls
SHILLONG: Despite considering Congress as the common enemy, the regional parties are going their own way without any pre-poll alliance in the run up to the district council elections which may in turn affect their prospects during the polls.
The regional forces UDP, HSPDP and KHANM have decided to fight separately in the district council polls which may become advantageous to the Congress.
Only NPP which does not have much presence in Khasi and Jaintia Hills, is toying with the idea of pre-poll alliance with the UDP or other regional parties.
The main target of the regional parties is the Congress, but after the talks with the agitating pressure groups on ILP issue made some headway, the Congress leaders consider that anti-incumbency will not be an issue which will determine the outcome of the polls.
Recently two senior cabinet ministers of the Congress, Prestone Tynsong and Deborah Marak made it clear that the ILP issue will not affect the polls prospects of the party in the district council elections.
