New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma has said that the Congress-led UPA II Government has not only brought the country from the brinks of division on cast and communal lines but also ushered in economic revolution.
Speaking at the day-long AICC session here, Dr Sangma said that this economic revolution has not only placed the country among the leading nations of the world but also changed the lives of common men.
Giving specific examples, he said that continuing liberal economic policies has brought a sea change in the lives of rural poor people.
As a result consumption has increased in rural areas and because of the consumption production cycle the economy as the ground level has undergone changes, Dr Sangma, who holds Finance portfolio, said.
This has stopped migration of rural labour force to urban areas, the CM said. Rural development programmes like MNAREGA is not only giving more working days but also more wages, Dr Sangma said.
Continuing his tirade against the BJP, Dr Sangma said that the party should not be elated over the so called victory in recent Assembly polls. “We have own in Mizoram and prior to that wrested power from BJP in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka,” he pointed out.
Besides, Dr Sangma, MPCC chief D D Lapang, both MPs -Vincent Pala and Wansuk Syiem, and other leaders attended the meeting.
