CM’s clarification on ANVC-B nexus slur unacceptable
SHILLONG: Opposition UDP has reiterated its demand for a CBI probe into alleged nexus between Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma and a Garo Hills-based rebel group.
“We still insist that an independent probe should be ordered to find out the truth. We cannot accept whatever the Chief Minister had said while refuting the allegation,” UDP secretary Allantry F Dkhar said here on Friday.
While stating that it is natural that everyone would try to defend himself, he however, said that the highest investigating agency in the country – CBI — should be asked to probe the alleged politico-militant nexus.
Earlier on Thursday, NPP president Purno A Sangma had accused the chief minister of being a common chairman of all the militant outfits of the Garo Hills region.
The NPP had also threatened to take up the matter with the Centre.
The Chief Minister had refuted the allegations made by a political secretary of the breakaway faction of A’chik National Volunteers’ Council (ANVC -B).
Denying in link with any militant outfit, the Chief Minister had said, “Dr Mukul is one among the very few politicians who do not keep any link with militant outfit. It is known to everybody, it is known to the people, it is known to the Government of India and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).”
The chief minister had also advised the UDP not to waste time in going all the way to Delhi to raise this issue.
