Dilapidated condition of NH44
SHILLONG: In a joint meeting held on Saturday at Khlierhiat, at the office chamber of the Deputy commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya District in between the NGOs, viz, the AJYWO Central Body, KSU-Jaintia Hills District Unit, FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle and the HNYF-East Jaintia Zone and the government of Meghalaya represented by the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, WR Lyngdoh followed by the Executive Engineer of PWD(Rds) Central Division Jowai, KB Makdoh along with the other high officials of the government of Meghalaya, the government has assured the leaders of the said NGOs that repairing of the dilapidated shape of the NH 44 will be started by Monday this coming week itself.
Mentionably, the joint meeting between the said two parties was convened by the Deputy Commissioner of the East Jaintia Hills District, Meghalaya after the AJYWO, KSU, FKJGP and HNYF threatened harsh agitational programmes to pressurize the government of Meghalaya and the Government of India to immediately repair the dilapidated shape and deplorable condition of the NH 44 stretch.
“With due respect to the assurance of the government to us in today’s join meeting, we have decided to postpone our proposed agitation programmes to demand the government to immediately repair the said highway”, M H Dkhar, the president of AJYWO Central Governing Body said.
But the said AJYWO Chief also informs, “If the government fails to keep its promise, we shall go back to our previous agenda to see that our demands are fulfilled”.
If we are to go for harsh agitation programmes in this regard, we would like to request the people of Jaintia Hills and the rest of North East India to extend us their physical and spiritual support so that we could succeed in our mission which is for the interest of the public as a whole.” Dkhar added.
It may be mentioned that earlier, Four Jaintia Hills based NGOs, AJYWO Central Governing Body, KSU Jaintia Hills District Unit, FKJGP-Khliehriat Circle and HNYF East Jaintia Zone has decided to call for harsh agitations from January 15 in protest against the government’s adamant attitude to fulfill their demand for immediate repairing of the NH-44 stretching from Mookyndur to Malidor.
