Tehelka case: Goa police may file chargesheet by January-end

Panaji: Goa police are expected to sum up their investigations in the sexual assault case allegedly involving Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal and file a charge sheet by this month end, an official said here on Sunday. “The investigations in the case are almost in the final stage,” the senior crime branch official told PTI. “We are waiting for the forensic report of the gadgets seized from Tejpal. The charge sheet would be filed by this month end,” he said. The crime branch during its investigation had seized gadgets like mobile, laptop of Tejpal which were used to communicate, after the alleged offence took place. Tejpal (50) was arrested on November 30 in Goa after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by a district and sessions court.  (PTI)

Man held for concealing goldbars in rectum

Tiruchirappalli (TN): A 28-year-old man was arrested at the airport here for allegedly attempting to smuggle one kg of gold by concealing it in his rectum. Abubaucker of Thiruvadanai in Tamil Nadu, who arrived from Malayasia by an Air Asia flight around midnight, was subjected to a thorough check by customs officials after they grew suspicious about his movement, officials said. It was found that Abubucker had kept hidden four gold bars totally weighing about one kg in his rectum. The customs air intelligence officials seized the gold, estimated to be worth about Rs 30 lakh. FIR against JD(U) MLA

Ara: A criminal case was lodged against ruling JD(U) MLA from Tarari assembly constituency Sunil Pandey here on Sunday. According to police, the MLA was passing through Baruhi village under Sahar police station alongwith his followers by a vehicle. Pandey and his followers beat up a farmer Umakant over some issue in the village. Later the farmer lodged an FIR at Sahar police station against the MLA and his three followers. Meanwhile, local villagers protesting against the incident blocked the main road which was later lifted following intervention of the administration.  (UNI)
