Patna: Condemning the killing of five labourers from Bihar in Assam, the RJD on Sunday demanded that the Centre intervene and immediately take action against Bodo militants.
RJD state spokesperson Ezaz Ahmad told newspersons here that some vested interest forces have hatched political conspiracy to unleash anti-peace atmosphere in Assam and were trying to get political mileage out of it.
He said that such forces were helping the Bodo militants in targeting the Hindi speaking people and the recent killing of five labourers in Kokrajhar of Assam is glaring example of it.
He asked the Centre to immediately intervene into the situation of Assam and take action to protect the lives and properties of Hindi speaking people there.
Meanwhile, Bihar government announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs.2 lakh for the kin of six migrant workers from the state who were killed in Assam by suspected Bodo militants, an official said.
Home Secretary Amir Subhani made the announcement, saying Chief Minister Nitish Kumar directed him to approach Assam officials to request them to make arrangements for bringing the bodies to the state.
“Nitish Kumar has also asked us to arrange for their cremation with government funds at their native villages in Saran and Siwan districts,” Subhani said.
The six Bihari workers were killed at Athiabari near Ramfalbil in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Friday night when Bodo militants fired indiscriminately at passengers in a bus coming from Siliguri to Jonai in Assam.
Two other passengers were critically injured in the attack. (Agencies)
