BJP asks central leadership to solve stapled visa issue
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh unit of BJP has asked for active intervention of its central leadership to bring an acceptable solution to the stapled visa issue to Arunachalees by China.
Addressing the party’s three days national conclave which ended at New Delhi on Sunday, party’s Arunachal Pradesh unit president Tai Tagak criticized what he described as “the lackadaisical attitude” of the UPA government in solving the visa issue saying that it “lacks sensitivity” for the young sports talents, civil servants and others in the recent years and is “discriminating” to the people of Arunachal Pradesh.
He said if BJP-led NDA comes to power in the state, it should attend and address the issue and initiate pro-active measures, a statement issued by the party said on Monday.
Tagak’s suggestions on the stapled visa also got reflected in the party’s political resolution adopted on Sunday.
A total of 107 members from Arunachal Pradesh headed by Tagak besides three MLAs and two former MPs – Tapir Gao and Kiren Rijiju attended the meeting, the release said. (PTI)
Minor girl found hanging in Nagaland
Kohima: A twelve-year old girl was found hanging by the neck at her house in Thaheku Block 6, Dimapur town on Sunday, at around noon.
Official sources on Monday informed that the deceased, identified as Christina, was found by her three younger siblings, with the ropes of an indoor swing entangled around her neck.
Sources said the parents of the deceased had gone to collect firewood in the morning, leaving their four children in the house. Sources informed that the parents have refused to allow a post mortem to be carried out on the body; but added that it could be an accident. (UNI)
Fire razes 11 shops in Nagaland
Kohima: Altogether eleven shops and a building belonging to former MLA Late Lhouvisier Doze near 2nd gate of Chumukedima Town Ward-6 under Dimapur district were gutted in a fire reportedly caused due to a short circuit on Sunday.
In a press release issued by Chumukedima Chamber of Commerce and Trade Association (CCCTA) President Avi Chase and General Secretary James Kin said the fire broke out at a shop on Sunday afternoon and immediately spread to the other shops, completely destroyed the shops.
CCTA said if the five fire tenders from Chumukedima and Dimapur had not arrived in time, many more shops would have been destroyed.
CCCTA has expressed gratitude to the fire brigade department for rendering its best service and preventing spread of the fire by the timely action of the fire tenders.
CCCTA also expressed regret that there has been four fire related incidents between January 4 and 19 in Chumukedima Town area. The association reminded all to be careful and also requested the responsible authority to probe into the cause of the latest incident. (UNI)
Mother of Odisha Governor SC Jamir turns 100
Kohima: Mrs. Takatula, wife of late Senayangba Jamir of Ungma village, mother of present Odisha Governor and former Governor of Goa and Maharashtra, former Nagaland Chief Minister Senayangba Chubatoshi Jamir, turned to 100 years on Sunday.
According to family sources the centenary celebration was held at a simple yet impressive function at Dimapur yesterday (Sunday), where among those who greeted Mrs. Takatula on turning 100, included seven children led by eldest son Dr. S. C. Jamir, 31 grand children, 49 great-grand children, family members and well wishers.
Even after turning 100, Mrs. Takatula still has sharp memory, good eye-sight and hearing like a 20-year-old and, she can still read the Bible without wearing spectacles at this age. (UNI)
