Community hall cum cultural centre inaugurated at Umsning

NONGPOH: It was dream come true for residents of Umsning Proper ‘B’ on Wednesday when local legislator and Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh inaugurated the two-floor Community Hall cum Cultural Centre which was the brain child of Rangbah Shnong Rocky Marwein.

The community hall was constructed under a Government sponsored scheme of the BRGF at an amount of Rs.4 lakh while the cultural centre was sponsored by the Central Government through the Ministry of Panchayati Raj at a cost of Rs.9.94 lakh.

The inauguration function was also attended by Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Dr. Pooja Pandey, BDO of Umsning C&RD Block P Khonglah, Youth leader Rayonald Kharkamni, Umsning Dorbar Chairman Rocky Kylla, officers from line departments, representative of the Umsning Proper B, Umsning Town Dorbar, local residents, teachers and students.

Addressing the function, Dr. Lyngdoh, lauded the Rangbah Shnong for his untiring efforts to bring about development in the village.

“It is a dream come true for all the local residents and the representative,” he said, while adding that the building can be utilized as an institution for vocational training and as a library, for betterment of the people of the village.

Dr. Lyngdoh also assured to bring in lot of developmental scheme which include construction of basketball courts, music instruments for the local youth organization and others.

On the occasion, representative of Umsning Proper ‘B’ released the constitution of the Dorbar Shnong and later felicitated Dr. Celestine Lyngdoh for being part and parcel of the locality and for being the first local legislator of the newly-constituted Umsning Constituency.

The village authorities also felicitated senior residents of the village and others who had contributed towards the welfare and betterment of the villagers.
