2 police recruits held for using proxy in exam

Bhopal: Two persons were arrested by the Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force for allegedly using fraudulent means to pass a police recruitment examination here. Sunil Dutt Sharma, a resident of Amabh in Morena district, and Ram Ikhtiyar Singh Gurjar of Bhind were held yesterday after they were found to have used proxy candidates to write their exam,, STF sources said today. The two had even completed six months of training after the recruitment, they said. While Sharma received training at the Tighra Police Training School (PTS), Gurjar underwent the process at PTS, Bhind. The duo was produced yesterday in a court which sent them to judicial custody. The MP Professional Examination Board had conducted the police recruitment exam around two years ago. (PTI)

Work on Lakhwar project to begin next month

Dehradun: Work on the multi-purpose Lakhwar  project will begin next month with the Forest and Environment  Department set to give its final clearance to it. “All preparations are in place to commence work on   Lakhwar project next month.The Forest and Environment  Ministry will give its final clearance to the project in the  next three days,” Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar today said  after a telephonic talk with the top officials of Forest and  Environment Ministry. The 300 MW Lakhwar multi-purpose project will benefit   several states including neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, Haryana,  Delhi, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, he said. The multi-purpose project estimated to come up at a cost  of Rs 3966.51 crore will generate 612.93 million units of  power, irrigate 33780 hectares of land and supply 78.83 MCM of potable water, said the official. Five school girls go missing in AP

Rajahmundry (AP):  Jan 22 (PTI) Five school girls, aged 11 to 14 years, studying in separate schools here have allegedly gone missing, police said on Wednesday. The girls went to their respective schools on Tuesday but did not return home, Rajahmundry Superintendent of Police S Ravikumar Murty said. Later, the parents of the missing girls, after an unsuccessful search, lodged their complaints at Rajahmundry (Urban), Prakasanagar and Bommuru police stations. A search has been launched to trace the school girls and police teams have been sent to Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam and other parts of the state, Murty said. All police stations in the state have been alerted, he said, adding that all the district SPs and commissioners have been informed about the missing girls. (PTI)

Orphaned girl raped, accused arrested

Salem:  A six-year-old orphaned girl was allegedly raped by a 24-year-old man here, police said on Wednesday. The incident happened Tuesday evening. The girl, a Class II student, was staying with her grand mother. The accused has been arrested. The man Kutty alias Kumar has been remanded to judicial custody and lodged in the central prison here, police said, adding, a case was registered against him under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. Fishermen being sensitised on coastal security

Kolkata: To integrate fishing community into the coastal security mechanism as additional ‘eyes and ears’ for vigilance, the Coast Guard on Wednesday launched a security awareness and medical campaign in fishing hamlets. West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan flagged off the campaign here comprising a 32-member coast guard, marine police and fishing community team from the Raj Bhavan precincts. During their four-day tour, the team would cover a distance of approximately 600 km on motorcycles and conduct the campaign in various fishing hamlets along the coastal regions of West Bengal, officials said. The teams will visit fishing hamlets enroute and undertake community interaction programme and medical check-up camps with the assistance of medical teams from Coast Guard and Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI). A similar awareness campaign would start in Odisha on Thursday. The teams will traverse through two different routes including the Diamond Harbour and Contai fishing zones. One of the routes will touch Petuaghat, Contai, Junput, Digha, Jaleswa before returning to Kolkata, while the second route will include Diamond Harbour, Kakdwip, Namkhana and Bakkhali. The campaign will terminate at the Coast Guard enclave in Maniktala on Saturday. This also commemorate 37 glorious years of the Indian Coast Guard that celebrates its raising day on February 1.
