TURA: A teenage girl has been arrested in Tura for allegedly serving demand notes and collecting extortion money on behalf of the banned GNLA on Wednesday evening.

Police raided the house where the girl, Rettilish R Marak (19), was residing with her live-in partner at Teteng Aja area of Tura town after obtaining information on her activities along with that of the boy.

“We arrested her husband four days ago and subsequently came to know that both were actively working for the militant group,” informed district police chief Mukesh Kr Singh.) Police recovered Rs 94,000 and demand notes of the GNLA from her possession. The girl, who hails from Chokpot region of south Garo Hills, is said to have been regularly serving demand notes on potential victims and subsequently collecting the extortion money which she would dispatch to GNLA area commander, West Garo Hills Baichung Momin. “She along with her husband had been involved in this extortion racket for GNLA for the last 6-7 months,” said the district SP. The arrested couple also ran a cloth business in the town, informed Tura police.
