KHADC elections
SHILLONG: Ending all speculations, Congress has decided to field two sitting party MDCs — Antonio War and Lambor Malngiang – from Laitumkhrah-Malki and Nongkrem constituencies respectively in the upcoming KHADC election.
Indicating this here on Saturday, a senior party functionary said that a formal announcement in this regard would be made on Monday, the day the party is scheduled to announce candidates for JHADC.
“The decision on Nongkrem and Laitumkhrah-Malki has been kept pending as some formalities are required to be completed,” the MPCC functionary said.
Malngiang did not submit his application on time, he said adding “This is why we have kept the decision pending”.
In the case of War, he said that the former needed to submit some more documents along with his application.
He also revealed that the respective Block Congress Committees (BCC) of Nongkrem and Laitumkhrah-Malki constituencies had forwarded the names of Malngiang and War only.
“Therefore, the question of the two sitting MDCs not getting the party ticket does not arise” the senior MPCC official said.
Earlier, Congress sources had informed that both Malngiang and War have been accused of indulging in anti-party activities prompting the leadership to refrain from immediately re-nominate them from Nongkrem and from Malki-Laitumkhrah constituencies.
However, the sources did not reveal the nature of the alleged anti-party activities.
It is worth mentioning that in the 2009 polls, Malngiang was elected from Nongkrem on a KHNAM ticket. Later, he defected to Congress. Malngiang is one of the few MDCs who had opposed the Delimitation Bill after it was passed by Congress-led KHADC Executive committee.
War, on the other hand, had allegedly instead of campaigning for Congress nominee from East Shillong constituency Ampareen Lyngdoh had worked for one of her opponents during the last Assembly polls.
