HC to hear KHADC poll petition on Feb 3

SHILLONG: The Division Bench of the Meghalaya High Court will hear the pending petition seeking a stay on the KHADC elections on February 3, while a similar petition filed by various organizations from  Jaintia Hill will be taken up on January 31.
Though the petition filed on January 13 by four MDCs of KHNAM, Latiplang Kharkongor, Adelbert Nongrum, James Ban Basaiawmoit and Carmel Sohtun citing faulty delimitation process, was posted for Monday for a final hearing, the Meghalaya High Court on Monday decided that the matter will be heard by a Division Bench on Monday next.
However, earlier, KHADC had filed a petition through its counsel VGK Kynta challenging the maintainability of the petition by the MDCs.The fate of the writ petition filed by the MDCs remains uncertain since the election has already announced for February 24.    As far as the petition filed by the traditional chiefs and pressure groups of Jaintia Hills against the delimitation process is concerned, the Court decided to hear the matter on Friday since the Government sought time to file an affidavit.
