JOWAI: In a bizarre incident a woman from Ladrymbai accused the village secretary of Ladrymbai Dongwah of raping her only to be counter accused by the latter who alleged that she has trapped him for money.

The victim lodged a complaint that on the evening of January 21 village secretary Deibor Suchiang raped her inside his vehicle at Rymbai Road.

Suchiang on the other hand has alleged that the woman who used to work for him and with whom he had an affair since October last was blackmailing him for money with the help of her husband and an NGO leader (HNPF president Marshall Biam).

“The woman, along with her husband and an NGO leader from Ladrymbai threatened to defame me if I fail to pay Rs 5 lakh,” Suchiang said adding that he succumbed to the pressure tactics and paid the said amount.

The village secretary while confessing that he has had sexual relations with the woman denied that he had raped her on January 21.

“I did not meet the woman on January 20 and 21,” he claimed.

Meanwhile police sources said that even though the woman mentioned in her complaint that she was raped on January 21, in her statement recorded with the police she gave January 20 as the date when she was sexually assaulted.

Suchiang argued that the woman had reported to work on January 22 thus implying ( that she was not raped the previous day.

He further accused that on January 23, the woman along with her husband and two others came to his house and allegedly threatened him with dire consequences for committing the rape if he failed to pay them Rs 5 lakh.

Sources informed that the matter was also discussed in the general meeting of the dorbar shnong but since it was not a case of rape, the traditional body could not come to a decision. The amount of Rs 5 lakh will allegedly be divided between the woman and the NGO leader.
