Abdul Salam poised to become new member of RS
Imphal: Haji Abdul Salam of the Congress will represent the lone seat of Rajya Sabha from Manipur. Scrutiny was done today and the papers of Abdul Salam was found to be correct. He is the lone candidate for the seat.In the 60-member House, Congress commands 42 seats and any Congress candidate was sure to win. The Opposition did not field any candidate.Haji Abdul Salam hails from Heibong Makhong, Thoubal district, and was elected to Manipur Legislative Assembly thrice and had served as minister twice. Rishang Keishing, the sitting MP, is also from the Congress and did not apply for the seat. (UNI)
Nagaland police nabs 3 for Jan. 12 rape on minor
Kohima: In a major breakthrough, Dimapur police arrested all three accused, for the January 12 abduction and rape of a minor student girl in the State Stadium, Dimapur. According to official sources today all the apprehended accused have confessed to the crime. The three have been forwarded to judicial custody on completion of remand and police were awaiting results of forensic examination. During investigation, it was also ascertained that the victim was a minor and was threatened by the accused when she resisted their action, sources said. (UNI)
Arunachal govt releases Rs 29 crore for SSA
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh government today released an amount of Rs 29 crore as state’s matching share for implementing Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in the state. The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki in presence of Finance and Planning Minister Chowna Mein, Education Minister Bosiram Siram, Development Commissioner (Finance) Ramesh Negi and Commissioner Education K R Meena, official sources informed. “This will facilitate the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development to release the remaining share of Rs 175 crore meant for salary of teachers of SSA and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) besides other SSA programmes,” sources said. The SSA and KGBV teachers’ salary would be released after the receipt of the Central share which is expected in the month of February next. While showing serious concern over the enhancement of KGBV school teacher’s salary, the chief minister assured to take up the matter with the ministry of Human Resource Development immediately. He observed that, it is imperative on the part of Central government to change the salary norms for KGBV teachers serving in tough and inhospitable terrains of Arunachal Pradesh which shares international borders with China, Myanmar and Bhutan. Meanwhile, a high level committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner Education to study various grievances of KGBV employees. The committee would submit a detail report to the government within a month, sources added. (PTI )
Human resources needs to strengthen to achieve the goal : CM
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today said that development can be effective when human resource is adequately capable and strengthened to achieve the goal.This was said by the Chief Minister Mr Tuki while inaugurating the two-day state level orientation training-cum-workshop on Rural Development (RD) programmes at Banquet Hall here. Addressing the lawmakers, bureaucrats, zilla parishad chairpersons, deputy commissioners, DRDA project directors and union RD ministry’s representatives, the CM said human resources need to be properly oriented to ensure that the benefits reach the targeted groups and result in better quality of life along with sustainability. He called for setting up of more extension training centres (ETCs) in the state as training is the most important ingredient for success of the programme and assured all possible support for strengthening the institutions like SIRD, the nodal agency for imparting RD related training. Appreciating the state government, parliamentary secretary of RD Punji Mara said this has increased the responsibilities of the PRI functionaries by manifolds. He exhorted all the participants to undergo the training with due seriousness so that the objective of rural development is achieved in our land-locked state where population are sparsely located in far-flung and remote areas. Earlier, RD secretary B R Babu dwelt at length on the macro planning and macro management of resources for it to percolate down to the beneficiaries. SIRD director N Ete highlighted the objectives of the training programmes. (UNI)
