SHILLONG: There is a demand from some ministers of Mukul Sangma-led government to allot Fortuners worth more than Rs 20 lakh for their comfortable journey.

The craze and temptation for travelling in costly vehicles has compelled the Ministers to demand the same.

An official said on Monday that there was a verbal demand from many ministers to avail Fortuners from the transport department, but the department has rejected their demand by saying it is against the rule.

The transport department currently provides official vehicles ranging from the cost of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 17 lakh to the ministers.

However, there is no restriction for the Governor and Chief Minister to use costly vehicles.
