Apropos the news item “DIG to assess law and order situation” (ST, Feb 3), the Officer In charge of Saipung Police Station has clarified that he was not involved in the firing incident at Briwar on January 29.

The official clarified that Begin Paslein was the first person to inform the Saipung OC of the incident over phone. It was Paslein who was allegedly involved in the firing incident and not the OC. Paslein had claimed that he was in Khliehriat (not Jowai as mentioned in the news report) at the time of the incident, although eyewitnesses confirmed his presence in Briwar at the time of the incident.
