SHILLONG: Members of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association, who took part in the KAI Senior National Karate Championship in New Delhi from January 23-26 and the JKAI National Karate Championship held in Mumbai from January 25-27, returned home with a bagful of medals.
Ester Mary Lyngdoh won a silver medal in the women’s 55kg individual kumite in New Delhi. Lyngdoh and Anidahun Mary Warjri, who lost in the quarterfinal bout in the women’s 50kg individual kumite, have both qualified for the National Games, to be held in Kerela.
In the Junior Nationals, the Meghalaya team won 24 medals – 11 gold, five silver and eight bronze.
Among the juniors were 10 trainees of the SAI Shillong Training Centre.
The senior team was led by Linza F Syiem as coach, while Arjun Sewa led the junior team. GEM Kharpuri was the manager.

Total medals is above 24 as some were earned through team events.
