MPCC to ready ticket aspirants’ list today

SHILLONG: The 10-member election committee of the MPCC would meet again on Thursday to deliberate on the candidates for the two Lok Sabha seats in the State.The Election Committee had on Monday extended the date for applying for the party ticket for the Shillong Parliamentary seat till February 6. Inside sources claimed that the MPCC extended the time to allow Mylliem legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh to apply for the party ticket.The Mylliem legislator on Tuesday finally submitted his application for the party ticket. In the race for the party ticket Lyngdoh has the blessings of MPCC chief DD Lapang and Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma, party sources said.

The committee which is headed by Lapang would be screening the documents of all the ticket aspirants for the Shillong and Tura Parliamentary seats.

Besides Lapang, the other members of the committee are Chief Minister Dr Sangma, HDR Lyngdoh, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Deborah C Marak, former Assembly Speaker Charles Pyngrope, former legislator Shitlang Pale, former Deputy Speaker PW Muktieh and Habigel War. Sources said that Pyngrope will not attend the meeting since he is one of the ticket aspirants. According to sources, the Election Committee would complete its task of screening the documents and details of all the ticket aspirants in Thursday’s meeting before forwarding the list to the AICC for approval.
