Six candidates file nominations on Day 1

SHILLONG: A total number of six candidates including two sitting MDCs filed their nominations on the first day of filing of nomination on Wednesday.

The candidates who filed their nomination include two sitting MDCs from HSPDP, Goodleaderson Nongsiej and KP Pangngiang from Nongstoin and Rambrai-Jyrngam respectively.

The other candidates who filed their nomination include Carlus Kharkongor (Independent) from Umsning, Christabel Wanniang (KHNAM) from Umroi, Air Marshal Diengngan (Independent) from Langrin constituency and Morningstar Mawsor (HSPDP) from Mawshynrut constituency.

Meanwhile, no candidates filed their nominations in East Khasi Hills and also in the JHADC on the first day.

KP Pangniang, incumbent MLA and MDC of Rambrai- Jyrngam and also a candidate this time besides outlining the manifesto of the party said that the recent issue of ILP highlighted by various NGOs and the by the HSPDP was no more a joke but a cry to fulfill and to bring at par the Khasi-Jaintia and Garo to the level of other States.

Pangniang however confirmed that their intention was not to discriminate another community with its position but to bring about a change and understanding which is vital to preserve, conserve and promote it own indigenous culture and identity. Out of the three, Pangniang and Nongsiej are sitting MDCs and stand a good chance of winning.Morningstar though a newcomer to politics, looked all set to play the role of an upcoming MDC during the nominations
