SHILLONG: The Mawsynram Youth Welfare Organization (MYWO) has expressed its concern over the poor condition of the Mawphlang-Balat Road which connects Shillong city with major towns and places like Mawsynram, Lawbah, Hat Mawdon, Balat, Ranikor, Mawkyrwat and their surrounding areas which consist of hundred of villages and is able to attract tourists too.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, MYWO said that the road is currently at its worst condition because of the lack of attention from the concern authorities and for many years as there is no initiative to improve the road which is also narrow.
“It is also another matter of concern that the repairing works here never last long and they all blame the rainy season for the condition of the road,” the MUWO said.
Stating that the villagers are unable to transport their vegetables and other products to the markets in Shillong and outside due to the road condition, the group said that tourists too try to avoid these places.
“If our demand of good road condition is not met, the organization with peoples’ support and on their insistence will be compelled to take necessary steps for the betterment of the road conditions and the improvement of the life and condition of the people of the area,” the organization said.
