SHILLONG: The NH 62 Save Mission Committee has issued a fifteen day deadline to the State Government to take action against those coal truck owners and association who carries load more than 9 metric tonnes while plying on the highway.

In a petition submitted to Transport Minister, Committee president Rikchi N Sangma alleged that coal truck mafias, associations and owners overload their trucks till 35 metric tonnes and this results in the damage of the newly repaired NH 62.

Stating that there is a Supreme Court direction to limit the loading of coal trucks to 9 metric tonnes, the committee said they would be compelled to take action as deemed fit if the Government fails to limit the loading of coals 9 metric tonnes as per the directives of the Supreme Court.
