Skill development: Labour dept targets 1.95 lakh individuals

SHILLONG: An official statement on Saturday mentioned that the State Labour department has made progress in the implementation of skill development programmes.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan, the proportional target set for Meghalaya for providing skill is  1,95,000 persons of which the target for Labour department is 56,856 persons.
The department is confident to meet its target of providing skill to 56,856 persons during the 12th Five-year plan period through its various skill development programmes including craftsmen training scheme (CTS), skill development initiative scheme and market linked skill development and placement (State Plan Fund).
The State Labour Department is undertaking the task of massive public awareness campaign on skill development.
The two day Meghalaya Skill Fest organized by the Directorate of Employment and Craftsmen Training, Labour Department concluded here on Saturday.
The training was conducted on February 3 and 4 at Tura and on February 7 and 8 at Shillong. The fest was inaugurated by Labour Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, both at Tura and Shillong. The Skill Fest in Jowai is scheduled to be held on February 12.
A total of over 9000 unemployed youth attended the Meghalaya Skill Fest to avail the opportunity of various placement-linked training programmes and career options offered in the fest.
The Department envisages that the fest will be of great benefit to the unemployed youth of the State.
The key objective of the skill fest is to generate awareness about job-oriented skill development programmes under the State Fund and the Placement-linked Modular Employable Skills Courses under the Skill Development Initiative (SDI) Scheme of the Ministry of   Labour and  Employment, Government of India; and allow candidates to understand a variety of possibilities and make selections of training programmes and careers as per their choice.
The Department has empanelled 10 training partners through the process of competitive bidding which include Six Sigma Educom,  ETPL (India) Skills Development Centre, Orion Edutech Private Limited,  IL & FS Education Technology Services Ltd ,  Nongkrem Youth Development Association,  Avenues,  Gazelle Information Techonologies Private Limited,  Edubridge Learning Private Limited,  HP Institute of Insurance and  Darpan, Guwahati.
