SHILLONG: Power Minister Clement Marak will hold a meeting with officers of the Power department to discuss the ongoing load shedding in the State which has taken its toll on the common people including the student community.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Sunday, Marak said, “We will meet and see what can be done to overcome the power shortage.”
The meeting will be held in the Main Secretariat on Monday.
The ongoing load shedding for four hours in two slots has caused tremendous hardship to the people especially the students who are preparing for their various Board examinations, besides hospitals in the State which are also bearing the brunt of the power cuts.
Reacting to a query about the Myntdu Leshka Hydro Power Project which was commissioned last year, the Power Minister admitted that the project is not generating much energy since it is the lean season. The water level in Umiam reservoir, too, has gone down much to the concern of the residents. The power supply to the entire city is borne out of the Umiam reservoir. The Opposition party UDP has also slammed the State Government over the ongoing load shedding.
