‘Govt servants violated office of profit rules’

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party, Mylliem unit, has lodged a complaint with the Chief Secretary against two Government employees for violating Government Service Rules by undertaking Government projects.
Advisor of UDP Mylliem constituency, Stephan Lyngdoh, lodged the complaint after documents obtained through RTI revealed that one Aiborlang Kurkalang, a Veterinary Field Assistant and A Dorphang, a river guard under the Department of Fisheries, were allowed to implement Government project by the Block Development Officer of Mylliem Community and Rural Development Block.
The RTI also revealed that Aibor Kurkalang had drawn Rs.1 lakh for the construction of a platform at Sanmer under SRWP 2008-09, while A Dorphang withdrew an amount of Rs.3 lakh for construction of a hall of St Paul’s Seminary under SRWP 2010-11 and another Rs.50,000 for construction of a wall at Syllai-u-lor.
The UDP Advisor stated that any Government cannot serve or avail any office of profit other than the post held under the Government
The party has demanded stringent action against the two erring Government servants.
The two projects were sanctioned by Mylliem legislator Ronnie V Lyngdoh, who is a contender for the Congress ticket for the Lok Sabha elections from the Shillong parliamentary seat.
