Nepotism in appointment of casual employees in DC’s office

SHILLONG: Alleged nepotism in the appointment of causal employees in the office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner has come to the fore through RTI findings.

Out of nine temporary appointments made at the office of the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, the parents of two causal employees are still working in the office, it has been revealed. The father-daughter duo, HS Shabong and Jolency Grace Marbaniang are working together at the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

According to the reply to an RTI query by Agnes Kharshiing, one S Kharbhuli and his daughter, Aiombha Kharbhuli are also working in the same office.

As per the reply of RTI query, once the qualified candidates are appointed, the services of causal employees appointed as enumerators or LDAs will be terminated.

The causal appointments were made effective between 2001 and 2013 by the respective East Khasi Hills deputy commissioners.

As per the RTI reply, the matter related to all vacant posts had been informed in writing to the Secretary, District Selection Committee so that qualified candidates could be recommended for appointment.

Other causal employees who are still serving in the office of Deputy Commissioner are Kitboklang A Rapthap, Ricky Wilson Dkhar, Wallam Phar Lawriniang, Eldora Nongbri, N Kharwanlang, Lanakila Lakiang and Khrawborlang Lyngdoh.
