SHILLONG: Sales XI defeated Boys of Gorkha by seven wickets in a Second Division Cricket League match at the Cricket Ground, Polo, on Tuesday, thanks in large part to Swaroop Dey’s 5/14 effort with the ball.
Boys of Gorkha chose to bat first, but were dismissed for just 108 in 17.5 overs. Amar scored 24 of those runs.
In reply, Sales XI reached 112 for three wickets in 17.2 overs. Bapan Das scored a run-a-ball 22, while Wasim bagged 2/27 in four overs.
In the second match of the day, Pinewood beat Nongrim Hills by the closer margin of two wickets and with only three balls left in their innings.
In a mirror of the first game, Nongrim Hills won the toss and chose to bat first.
They were not all out, but could still only manage 103/8 in their 20 overs. Bryan Boson made 29 runs, while Raymond took 2/15.
In reply, Pinewood were pushed to the limit as they lost wickets regularly, but scraped over the line, making 104/8 in 19.3 overs. Deepak Singh made 23, while Vishal claimed 2/17.
The Second Division will take a short break before resuming later in the month.
