SHILLONG: Footballers from the tiny state of Sikkim booked their place in the semifinal of the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament with a 4-2 win over Assam in Aizawl on Tuesday.

Playing in the three-team Group B, Sikkim have joined defending champions Manipur in progressing to the knock-out round.

Manipur have six points from their two victories, while Sikkim end on three points. Assam lost both their games.

All six goals in the match were scored in the second half.

With this result, the semifinal line-up has been finalised. Meghalaya (second in Group A) will have the arduous task of playing Manipur, while Mizoram (top team from Group A) take on Sikkim.
